Access to Greenwich is a 5 min bus ride, it's walkable too and the Amersham Arms is stumbling distance. (London's newest live music venue run by the Camden Lock Tavern crew:- http://www.amersham-arms.co.uk/).

There is a massive Sainsbury's by New Cross Gate station along with Curry's (Electronic / Home ware shop) for convenience.

Transport:

You have choice of 2 stations, New Cross and New Cross gate. These both go direct into London Bridge & Cannon Street which is 1 stop away or Charing Cross which is 3 stops away. (Charing Cross depending on time of day)

Both stations are serviced by the East London line; however these are currently undergoing development and will not be reopening until 2010. There is a replacement bus service to Canada Water station which is very quick and gets your direct onto the Jubilee line.

Bus routes are great from New Cross; you have access to all of the following:

453 into Marylebone (goes into Oxford Circus)

171 into Holborn

172 to St Paul’s

21 to Newington Green (goes to London Bridge / Old Street / Hoxton)

225 to Canada water

177 To Thamsmead (goes to Greenwich)

53 to Blackheath

Also, from New Cross Gate, you can get to Gatwick airport in approx 30 mins via train link at East Croydon.
